The Hub

The Hub

Although many online video portals exist today, very few have the features of The Hub. It is meant to be a consumer oriented video portal that presents concerts, interviews, clinics and demos that highlight Yamaha artists and products.

The Hub Flash interface is content managed and interfaces with a server-side API. The Flash interface implements social bookmarking, direct URLs to videos, rotating and targeted banner ads, live, streaming and on-demand video in 16:9 HD format, multiple podcast streams on iTunes, members-only content, video downloads for mobile devices and more.

Arthur was a team member on the project to design, develop and implement this impressive web property. His specific responsibility was to act as technical lead in charge of the design and development of the Flash interface. The core project was designed and developed in 90 days using AS2.

On any given month, approximately 15,000 videos were viewed and/or downloaded at The Hub. Plus, every month at least 300 unique visitors became new members to view members-only content. Check it out!.

Yamaha Online University

Yamaha Online University

The Yamaha Online University sprung up as a next step in the evolution of The Hub. The Yamaha Online University was created to present training materials to the sales staff at Yamaha dealerships. The challenge of this project was to present Yamaha dealerships with the content that applies to the products that it is authorized to sell. For example, if a dealership is authorized to sell only pianos then the sales staff of that dealership views content related only to piano products.

Yamaha Online University united all the training content for dealers into one site. The result? In its first month of operation approximately 1400 training modules were viewed and completed, that is many times more that what any of the previous sites like it accomplished during years of operation. Additionally, the data gathered from this site is incredibly valuable.

Arthur was a team member on the project to design, develop and implement the project. His specific responsibility was to act as technical lead in charge of the design and development of the Flash interface which he developed using AS3 Object Oriented Programming techniques. Like The Hub, Yamaha Online University interfaces with a server-side API. Check it out!.

Yamaha Artist Services

Yamaha Artist Services

The Yamaha Artist Services web site was designed to promote the many events it hosts at its venue located on 5th Avenue in New York City. The events consist of artist concerts and clinics.

Arthur's job was to develop the many templates necessary for web visitors to browse events and reserve seats. A calendar interface was developed to make browsing events easy.

Interestingly, many of the events at Yamaha Artist Services are recorded and broadcasted on The Hub. Check it out!.

All Access Online Magazine

All Access Online Magazine

The All Access Online Magazine was developed to expand the audience of the print version of the magazine without compromising the magazine's look and feel. It also helped slimline and speed up the time to market for each issue of the magazine. Before the current Flash interface was implemented, the production time to build an HTML layout was slow and costly. Production time for each issue now is 3-5 hours.

Arthur implemented an advanced Flash flipbook component and designed functionality around it using the component's API. The component's zoom feature unfortunately was limited. One challenge was to keep the magazine's clarity in the zoom mode. Arthur was able to overcome that design challenge. Plus, other functionality was coded to allow direct URL access to any issue and page of the magazine.

The All Access Online Magazine runs on multiple XML files that it uses to display a list of past issues, the current issue and the zoom feature. Check it out!.

Clavinova Product Finder

Clavinova Product Finder

The Clavinova Product Finder was designed to allow consumers to select the right Clavinova product for their needs. It was also developed to help consumers explore all the features of the Clavinova product line.

In a nutshell, the consumer chooses the features that they want and the product finder tells them what products have those features. As the consumer chooses more product features, the number of products diminish.

The same project was reused to produced four other sites that present four other Yamaha product lines. Check it out!.
